Praying for Our Nation and Leaders
I first wrote this the day before the 2016 election and share it again now in 2024 as election day approaches. In times like these, it is good to be reminded of some specific ways that we can pray for our nation and for those whom we elect to lead us at the local, state, and federal levels. All of these, by the way, are taken from or influenced by the holy scriptures and what is found there regarding government and government officials.
Pray for government leaders to know, love, and fear the living God and to live and govern in obedience to Him.
Pray for God’s will and divine guidance as officials exist as servants of God (knowingly or unknowingly) for our common good. Pray for government leaders to govern by God’s plans and purposes.
Pray for government leaders to know truth. Pray for them to be honest and full of integrity. Pray for them to know the difference between right and wrong.
Pray for government officials to have wisdom and to have hearts of discernment.
Pray for those who govern to do so with justice and equity.
Pray for physical peace within capital cities.
Pray that the Lord would help us be good citizens who respect, honor, and submit to government authorities. Give thanks to God for them and ask the Lord to help us all live peaceful, holy lives that please God. Pray for wisdom and discernment in situations where man’s laws are in direct conflict with God’s law.
One other thing. Take time to read through and meditate upon Psalm 46 in its entirety.
For what it’s worth.
